  1. I remember this warm wise elder teaching me about his life experiences in this country growing up as a young black Rastafarian man. He was teching me what life was like then, when ever I had met him I really looked forward to hearing him teach me and pass on knowledge. These are the memeories that I will hold of this dear man, who touched so many lives. My thoughts are with the whole family at this time. May he rest in everlatsing Peace!

  21. from Barbara Tomlin-Shaw
    Sledge gave us a sense of being, a consciousness that spanned decades and infused our minds and hearts with the knowledge and truth of our cultural history. A truth that was so blatantly denied to us for many, many years. I thank him for his wisdom and his steadfastness, his views and opinions, his cultural integrity and his spiritual strength. His funeral was testiment to his wonderous works...drums that speak to your heart, reassuring that feeling of spiritual existence. R.I.P Gladstone (Sledge) Robinson

  23. In hounor of Mr Sledge

    " Now I am going to him who sent me, yet none of you ask me, 'Where are you going?' Because I have said these things, you are filled with grief. But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counsellor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and rightousness and judgment: in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; in regard to rightousness, because i am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.
    "I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears,and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.
    "In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me."

    Much Love and Respect.

  24. Hi, thank you to everyone who has posted such heart warming and comforting words. I knoew my Dad was loved and respected but the love shown for him and sorrow expressed at his passing has exceeded any expectation. The honor bestowed upon him as a Wise but funny, an educator but not a lecturer, preacher without being a conventional preist and a father of his eight children, grandchildren, great- grandchildren and an entire generation of community, black,white & mixed races.
    A good brother to his two sister's Jannette and Gloria and his long passed and missed brother Oscar. A cousin to my Uncle Ossie also uncle to a uncountable amount of neices and nephews around the world. That's a lot of testimoneals of love... They will carry him through his journey and bring him to his rightful resting place. My father was a travelling man in his young days, so will look forward (never backward), to his new journey home. May he rest in the arms and be surrounded in the love of all his friends and family that have passed before him who he missed dearly, his mother,brother,Uncle's and Aunt's left first followed by his beloved Grandma Rosie then his father. Most devastating to him as we all know was the loss of his wife my mother, Mrs.Ade'(Adline),Little Miss, Robinson. More recentely many of his very close childhood friends had passed, Mortimo Planno, Alton Ellis and even a few of his younger bredrins who he bought up alon the was Tek-lah R.I.P.
    So i know my father will have the same amount of love awaiting him as he has left here in the physical world... His words of comfort after a passing of a loved one - "Don't look for me for i am not there". Prophecy of Jesus Christus.

  25. In my father's church service i asked all to remeber him as he was. Try not to anguish over the way he died but remember as said during his service, God sent a chariot of fire to pick up Joshua after he fought the battle of Jerico - my father fought many battles against the system - also the story of Shadrack, Meshack & Abendigo who had passed through the fire. So it may seem destructive but fire is also a cleanser of the spirit...A vehical of Our Father and as in the book of Revelation shall be sent to purify the earth as it is after harvesting to prepare for a better crop.

    Please find comfort in these prophecies as his closest family and friends will seek to do...

    Bless up and Jah Guide!!!

  31. The Good old days.....
    Remember the days when we all lived in the 'Grove' and the brethens, came from near and far to sit in with 'Gladdy'
    "inna Iditation inna Iration" to learn and beat Nyahbingi drums and blaze the Chalice to give thanks and praise to our Lord Jah;
    To begin all Brethens free up their Natty dread, and PSALM 133 was read aloud, and read together to open the praises.
    Today in this World
    MAN FIGHTING DOWN THEIR BRETHENS:
    Remember this is the black man mantra of brotherhood
    I dedicate this Psalm in memory of Gladdy.
    PSALM 133
    1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
    2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard; that went down to the skirts of his garments;
    3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion; for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.

  38. Today Sledge came to my mind, as he does from time to time and I decided to Google him, remembering the iconic photo of hi outside the Golden Cross with a young Aswad. I knew him to be a quiet man who sipped his half Guinness occasionally with a small brandy chaser, in The Warwick Castle. He had this constant half smile on his face as if he was getting jokes to himself...he was respectful and I felt calm in his presence. The last time I saw him I walked him home, it was late and his legs were not as good as they had been, he still invited me in for a drink, which I declined, and now I kinda wish I had....because whenever he talked to me he had some pearls of wisdom and advice that never felt he was giving it but managed to hit the nail on the head as if he Knew what was going on and that it would all be fine as he knew who I was inside.....and keeping my heart clean was the most important thing. I love that I had a few moments with him and he will continue to pop into my thoughts as my life goes on........and btw.....he was right......everything worked out just fine........exactly as he knew it would (as I wrote that I saw him give me a big grin and wink....clear as day.....) God Bless You, Sledge.....know you are back with the love of your life together again xxx
